Quantrill, William Clarke identified as Charles William Quantrell. Back reads, "This drawing of Quantrill was used by John Edwards in his book, "Noted Guerrillas." This book was published in 1877 and it is believed to be the frist picture of Quantrill or the first picture of a man believed to be Quantrill, that was published by the press,,,,W.W. Scott desctibed Quantrill at the time of his death in the way. This appeared in the Louisville, Kentucky newspaper. Scoott said, "Although he (Quantrill) was only twenty-seven years old at the time of his death, yet one would taken him to be much older man from his personal appearance. He was about five feet nine inches high, and weighed not over 145 ounds. He had rather a well-shaped head. His hair was of a lighten color, and wore side-whiskers and a mustache, both of which had a peculiar red tint. His nose was inclidened to be Roman, and had a keen blue eye. He talked but little, and then to the point, though when occasion required he could talk very fluently, and he was well calculated to deceive almost anyone. He had acquired a pretty fair education at odd times, being his own teacher. He kept his men well in hand, and impressed them with a feeling of awe."
