Independence Fire Department, 1905
Four men in front of fire house holding carriage and horse. Although not specifically identified, it is believed that this is the fire station that pre-dates the current structure at the corner of Truman Road and Main Street in Independence. According to Ron Yale, retired firefighter, the clapboard building was formerly a blacksmith shop down Crysler Ave just before the tracks, and then a garage for the fire department when it was moved to the original engine house on Osage between Maple and Lexington (See PHM1428). It was brought to the Osage location for a time and then removed once again to the lot at the corner of Main and Truman. It was placed on a brick foundation that allowed the fire department more space.
