Oak Grove main street (Broadway) business buildings in the 1870s. Two sows and their litters roam the street in the left hand corner, and a goose is in the middle. One of first ordinances Oak Grove municipality passed was in 1881 was that geese could not parade down Broadway (no mention of pigs or hogs). Additional description was published in the "Lickskillet Banner," Volume 1, Number 1, a "Special Jaycee Lickskillet Festival Edition" of the Oak Grove (Mo.) Banner, 6 Sept. 1974: "This is the east side of the business district of our little village. On the left out of sight is the livery stable, then comes Perkins and Surface Hardware, Stoves and Tinware, Agricultural Implements; next, Mark Farmer Clothing, Hats, Boots and Shoes; Bill Fuegot Pool Hall; W. H. Perkins Hardware, Groceries, Stoves and Tinware, Agricultural Implements; Rice Farmer Dry Goods, Drugs; John King Furniture and the Millinery Shop of Miss Myrta King and Mrs. E. J. Holland which is in the rear. (Ed. Note, 1974) Site is from empty lot south of service station at 11th and Broadway to corner of 12th and Broadway.)"
