Hall was a merchant, trader, government mail contractor, freighter and farmer of Jackson County, Missouri. His partnership, Waldo and Hall Company, was holder of a mail contract between Independence and Santa Fe. Hall, a farmer, was a graduate of Jefferson College in Pennsylvania and associate of Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton. Letters between Jacob Hall and Mary L.
