Folder 25

From collection Papers of Jo Ann Meierhoff

Folder 25
This material came from a scrapbook that included documents for two different topics: a play "Darling of the Desert" which opened at the Old Knickerbocker Music Hall in New York City on 9/28/1949 and Texas singer Roberta Welch "The Texas Meadowlark" singing at the Continental Room at the St, Moritz Hotel in NYC during March, 1950. It is not clear why the scrapbook contained these two seemingly unrelated topics. The file also contains a letter to Jo Ann McLaughlin from Caroline "Carrie" Boyd about potentially staging "Darling of the Desert" in Kansas City. Ms. Boyd wrote the original book the play was based on. The file also includes a letter from Paul Killiam, who co-authored the play, to Ms. Boyd about staging "Desert" in Kansas City. The material regarding Roberta Welch are press clippings and photos about her booking at the St. Mortiz Hotel. See also photos in P16.02 F2 both of Ms. Welch and what appear to be photos from the Old Knickerbocher performance of "Darling of the Desert".
